With all this snow on the ground, one would think this is a quiet time of year for the Whitecourt District Agricultural Society. The truth is that we have been very busy!

Plans are already underway for both the mud bogs and the upcoming rodeo. If you are interested in joining either committee, we would love to have you aboard! Meetings are posted on upcoming events but if you would like more information, please, contact us at the hall. 780-779-4343.

The beautification committee has also started planning for their spring projects and meet once a month. The building committee has been hard at work and will likely be having a work bee in the spring. Currently, they are beginning to work on small jobs in the Westward Equestrian Centre and beginning our transition from flourescent to LED lighting to help with rising electric costs.

If you are wondering where the Westward Equestrian Centre is, it is the new name of the indoor riding arena!

The annual Alberta Association of Agricultural Societies (AAAS) conference was held through January 29th to February 2nd. Three directors and the two administrators attended. This conference is loaded with seminars to help improve our Ag societies across Alberta with topics ranging from financial management training to how to reduce energy in our facilities. Friday evening the minister forum opened up the floor for Agricultural Societies to ask MLAs about concerns. It was a very informative conference and all five delegates came back with a lot of useful information to share with the board and society.

The provincial AAAS marketing awards were presented on February 1st. The Whitecourt District  Agricultural received two awards this year. The society placed 2nd in social media for their Facebook group and 3rd for best new event/program. (Community Garage Sale)

We are beginning to fill up with events at the hall and the Westward Equine Centre. March 28th - March 29th Cecile Dykstra of Evolution Performance Horses will be holding an all around Horsemanship clinic in the arena. Interested parties can find more information on the Upcoming Events page. Here

Equine dentist Grant McKinnon will be in the Westward Equestrian Centre February 11-12. Check out our Facebook page for more information. Whitecourt District Agricultural Society page link

A special thank you to the town of Whitecourt for their cheque, presented in December given in support of our operating budget.

Also, a warm welcome to our newest board member, Adam Barembruch who joined our board in January.

Stay warm out there!
